Starting point
A private driver takes part in the Lions Run with his Ferrari, a lifestyle event where a limited number of supercars drive across Europe for several days. No race, no timing.
His team, Team Babyblau, needed material that looks like a premiere and not like a phone shot in a car park.
One clarification, because it would otherwise be read wrong: the job came from the driver, not from the car maker.
Approach
The animation is a reveal. At the start a cover lies over the car, it moves and falls. After that the car stands in the dark, and the only thing showing it are light edges along roof, shoulder and rear wing.
A dark car against a dark ground is the hardest exercise in rendering. It becomes visible not through its own colour but through what reflects in it. The work therefore sits not in the car but in what stands around it and appears in its paint.
It was built in stages that are still visible in the images: first the grey form without materials, to check proportion, camera and timing, then paint, glass and reflection.
Besides the film there are stills and short loops as GIFs, material for chats and stories, where nobody watches a long video to the end.
Result
A set of film, stills and loops the team could show with before and during the event.
