In useShawarmery: Website with a Story and Its Own Menu
The new shawarmery.de: a story that unfolds from a burger bite as you scroll, one menu for two shops from the same database as the app, a page for the app, franchise, and its own hosting without cookies.

The new site
This is how it feels.
Three recordings on a phone, uncut: the home page with its menu-board opening, the story and the menu.
The story
One photo, taken apart in layers.
Shawarmery’s story starts with a bite into a crispy burger. I split the photo into layers, and each moves a little differently as you scroll. That creates depth without loading a video.

- 01
The shop
Barely moves and darkens as you scroll.
- 02
The word
“Geschmacksexplosion”, set like on the menu board, behind the guest.
- 03
The guest
Comes closer the further you scroll.
- 04
The hand
Belongs to the guest but tilts on its own when you tilt the phone.
- 05
The ingredients
Fly out of the burger, each on its own path.

Scrolling moves the layers apart.
The menu
One menu for two shops.
The menu comes from the same database as the app. A dish is entered once and then shows up everywhere. Each shop has its own prices, and whatever a shop doesn’t serve simply isn’t there: Obersendling has no grilled chicken.
What the menu costs the database.
Before, every guest fetched the menu piece by piece from the database: about a hundred reads per visit. Now the server rebuilds the menu at most every ten minutes, and everyone gets the same finished page.

The photos
One photo, set up for its spot.
Every dish is cut out and has its own settings for the menu: how large, how far out, mirrored or not. Wraps sit on the bottom edge and reach up to the text; in the boxes the meat moves towards the middle. Because cards alternate left and right, the page mirrors the photo by itself.

Before
A template the menu never made it onto.
Until October 2026, shawarmery.de ran on a Squarespace template: one photo, one sentence, one contact button. Under “Menu” it said “Menu folgt…”, menu coming soon. Yet Shawarmery had its menu in the app, on the menu boards in the shop and on the box. Only the website knew nothing about it.
