Rabenwirt: Images of the Inn and Rooms

Starting point

A country inn with a hotel and a terrace above the valley. A house like that sells four different things: the dining room, the room upstairs, the seat outside and the food. Show only one and you have not shown the house.

One sentence that belongs here: this did not become a commission. It was meant to be one, it did not come about, nothing was paid. The pictures were made anyway.

Approach

Three days, late July and early August 2017, and in that time each of the four things done once properly.

The dining room in daylight through the windows, tables laid, candlesticks up. The bar with its antler lamps, dark and warm. A hotel room with a canopy bed, tidy down to the last fold. The terrace under the parasols, long tables set, the valley behind. And a plate from the kitchen, close.

Three of the interiors are merged from several exposures. In a dining room that is not an effect but a necessity: outside it is bright, inside it is warm and dark, and a single frame has to choose one of the two.

Result

A set that shows the whole house rather than only its prettiest corner.
