Crown Works

Turn Blender models into parts that fit.

Three things go wrong on every printed part. The insert hole is never the size you drew. The lid never fits the first time. And every screw boss gets modelled from scratch.

Crown Works puts the answers into Blender, as sliders that stay live.

Parts that fit.

Printed holes come out smaller than drawn, and differently on every printer. Crown Works accounts for that instead of guessing.

Inserts, holes, clips

Threaded inserts, nut pockets, screw holes and snap fit clips, placed with one click and still movable afterwards. For an M3 insert it sets a 4.0 to 4.2 mm hole and at least 1.6 mm of wall together.

Works with your printer

Five rings from 0.1 to 0.5 mm clearance and a test pin. Print it once, enter the best value, and every tool works with your machine.

Sliders instead of remodelling.

Every insert, every fit, every relief stays a live modifier. You can still change the wall thickness the day before you print.

Enclosures to size

A parametric enclosure from your measurements, with a push-fit lid, clips, ribs and rounded edges. Pull the enclosure and the screw bosses move along.

Surfaces

Patterns or your logo as an SVG on any face, curved ones too. Vents and honeycomb cut through the same wall, with a guaranteed web.

G-code without a slicer

Spiral toolpaths straight out of Blender for vases and lamps, with ribs, ripples and twist. Profiles for the Bambu Lab P2S are included.

Mounts around a device

An organic shell around a device you measure once. If the device changes, one button measures again and the shell follows.

Shape cutting

Draw a shape on the surface and cut, with shortcuts instead of menus. The cutters stay adjustable one by one.

Keyboard cases

A case around the insides of a keyboard, from presets, split into print-ready parts at the end.

The free version uses the same core. If it runs for you, the rest will too.

It stays editable.

Every insert, every fit, every relief is a modifier that stays live. Pull on the enclosure and the screw bosses follow. Nothing is baked, nothing has to be placed again, and you can change the wall thickness the day before the print.

It works from your printer, not from a table.

Print the tolerance coupon once, five rings from 0.1 to 0.5 mm of clearance, try the pin, enter the value that fits. From then on fits, screw holes and clips use your machine. Without that step every number from the internet stays a guess.

Measured before you get it.

The steps in Crown Works came out of building an NFC reader: enclosure in Blender, printed, painted, aluminium plate, firmware. One device turned into a tool for the next ones.

Questions that come up

Which Blender versions are supported?

Tested on 4.5 LTS and 5.2 LTS, both pass the full suite. Two building blocks only exist from 5.2 on; where they are missing the add-on takes a different route, detected by the block itself and not by the version number. Older than 4.5 is untested.

Will it work with my printer?

Yes, and that is the point. The shipped values are starting points. The tolerance coupon measures your printer, and everything then works from your number. Profiles for the Bambu Lab P2S are included, they are not required.

Why do printed holes come out too small?

Because the nozzle lays down a little more material on the inside edge than the drawing calls for. A 4.0 mm hole measures less once printed. The add-on compensates for that per nozzle instead of ignoring it, and the coupon tells you how much it is on your machine.

What hole size does an M3 heat set insert need?

4.0 to 4.2 mm, with at least 1.6 mm of wall around the boss. The add-on places both together so the insert does not split the wall. You do not need to know the number, but you should be able to see it.

Do I need an internet connection?

Once, to activate. After that 14 days offline, and another 14 with every new check. If you work on a train you will not notice it.

How many machines can I use it on?

Yours. The key counts how many machines it has been activated on, once per machine and not on every start. Two workstations and a laptop are fine. A whole company is a different question, then write to me.

What is in the free version?

Heat set inserts, nut pockets, screw holes, feet, spacers, fits, snap fit clips and the tolerance coupon. Complete, no key, no account, no limit. What costs money are the generators: enclosures, surfaces, G-code, shape cutting, wall mounts and keyboard cases.

Can I sell what I make with it?

Yes. What you design and print with it is yours, without limits and without a cut for me. The add-on itself is under the GPL, like every Blender add-on.

How do updates reach me?

There is a button in the panel. It asks, checks your key and swaps the files. The network is never touched while a panel is drawn, only when you press it.

Do I need to know Blender?

The basics, yes. Select, move, enter edit mode. If you have never moved an object, watch an hour of basics first; after that this add-on is easier than CAD.

What if it does not run on my machine?

The purchase runs through Gumroad, and refunds run there too. The better move is to take the free version first. It uses the same core, and if that runs on your machine the rest does as well.
